Not Me, But You. ❤️💙
Four words. It’s all it takes to encapsulate what NSS is all about.
The National Service Scheme started in the centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi on 24 September 1969. And 57 years on, it continues to stand on the belief that education is incomplete without serving someone other than ourselves.
But let’s take a closer look at that badge. The wheel is inspired by the Konark Sun Temple with 24 spokes symbolizing the 24 hours of the day. No office hours in service. Red represents the dynamism of youth whereas blue represents our humble role in the vast expanse of sky that always calls us back to give something back.
“Not Me, But You.” It is easy to utter but difficult to practice. What does it imply?
🌱 Picking up trash that is not your responsibility
🤝 Supporting someone even before they ask for it
🎒 Giving your time even when no one keeps track of it
🌍 Placing community needs above your convenience
✨ Doing everything in silence and without any intention of recognition
To every volunteer who has cleaned, carried, taught, marched, organized and stood there till the last chair was arranged: you are the motto in action. Thank you.
And to every student wondering if NSS is for you: it is. Come as you are, and leave having made someone's day better. The wheel has room. 🇮🇳
