A session on parenting where we discussed compassion, children’s self-esteem, what children infer from how parents speak of family finances, social media usage, and seeking help.

We also raised awareness of the increased risk of child trafficking in the context of the ongoing ethnic violence, with education and livelihoods disrupted. The role of village-level policies and initiatives for child rights was also covered.

A treasure hunt at Tengnoupal with our displaced children club.

Some found less, and some more. We learnt how to share it all equally. Much wholesomeness!

Langching, a village with over a hundred households, was entirely burnt down in May, a consequence of the ethnic violence that erupted that month. Some of those displaced villagers reached out to us, expressing a desire to farm. It was the only way forward, they said, the only way to fight hunger. They had lost access to the market—couldn’t buy, couldn't sell.

We supported their farming initiative, and recently visited them. They told us the work keeps them busy, helps them momentarily forget their suffering.

They now grow cabbage, beans, potato, mustard leaves, coriander and more.

Nov 2023.
