Sree Karunya Mission -Residential School for Mentally Challenged Children

‘KARUNYA’ was established in 2003 (Registration No: T. 2756 / 2003) as a “School for Mentally Challenged Children” by a small group of people living in and around Neyyanttinkara, Thiruvananthapuram Dist. Her husband, Suresh, a small-time contractor, also lends valuable support to this noble cause. A committee of 7 people meet frequently to discuss and decide various matters concerning ‘KARUNYA’. I

n 2006, the Government of Kerala accorded approval for the school vide order no Edn/TVM/103/2006. Presently there are 72 children attending the school. Of this, 45 are abandoned and, therefore, live in the school. The staff consists of 5 teachers, 3 ayahs, 3 night helpers, 1 cook and 1 security guard. All the children are provided lunch, evening tea and snacks. The 27 resident children get breakfast and dinner also. Currently, the school is located and operated from a rental house at Vazhuthur, about 1.5 km from central Neyyattinkara. However, the landlord has given notice for vacating the house in 2011. From the generous donations received from the private citizens, the mission has purchased a piece of land and is in a dire need of financial support for building a facility. Besides, the school lacks many basic requirements for the children, such as, clothes, beds, bedsheets, tables, chairs, fans, large cooking pans, sewing machines for training the children and a watertank. Furthermore, the day today expenses are also met through donations. These children need your help.
