To reiterate focus on implementation of the recent amendments in the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act , last week we assisted in conducting an online orientation for nodal officers of all States and Union Territories.

The orientation was chaired by Dr Indu Grewal, Additional Commissioner, CAC, MTP and Family Planning, MoHFW, Govt of India who also facilitated sessions along with Dr Indranil Das, Director, MoHFW; and Dr Sangeeta Batra, IDF.

Meet Archana Mishra, a committed voice for women’s health in her community in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. By mobilizing frontline workers and local leaders, she has helped ensure that vital information on sexual and reproductive health reaches women who need it most. Her work has strengthened community dialogue, encouraged informed decision-making, and supported women in accessing safe and dignified healthcare.

Through Sanjha Prayas - साँझा प्रयास—an IDF-mentored network of 100+ NGOs across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh working to bridge communities and health systems - strong leaders like Archana are building stronger local pathways for awareness, support, and access to reproductive health services

When Hemlata began her journey, family planning was a new and unfamiliar topic for her - just as it was for many women in her village. Today, as a community mobiliser mentored by us, she brings women together for group sessions, creating safe spaces to learn, ask questions, and speak openly in Gandura village in Alwar 💬

Through continuous learning, close coordination with frontline workers, and dialogue, she helps address myths, ease fears about side effects of contraception, and build trust within families and with key decision-makers.

Because of her efforts, more women are attending community meetings and taking steps toward healthier futures

We equip mobilisers like Hemlata with training, practical tools, and ongoing mentorship so they can lead informed, trust-based conversations in their communities.

Change grows through empathy, consistency, and local leadership - and Hemlata is leading the way in Gandura ❤

Our colleagues Anisha Aggarwal, Divya Gandhi and Ami Sahgal participated in the consultation workshop “Developing Effective Communication Strategies for Sexual Healthcare of Urban Poor Women” at Lady Sri Ram College for Women, as part of the ongoing research under the Bharat Ram Trust Grant.

Anisha spoke about access in the context of comprehensive abortion and contraceptive care, grounding the discussion in lived realities, while Divya shared practical insights on what it really takes to design communication that works.

The room didn’t open up instantly. There were pauses, quiet moments, a few nervous laughs. But as the day went on, the conversations deepened. By the end, there was honesty, curiosity, and a palpable need for more spaces like this. ✨

✨ : In Sehra, Alwar, Guddi Bairva - a mother-in-law - once believed that families should have children early. It was what she had always known.

Today, she encourages her daughter-in-law Rajani to take her time - to care for her health, continue learning, and understand her options before planning a pregnancy. With support from her mother-in-law, Rajani feels more confident asking questions and thinking about her future

Alongside them is Narmada Devi, the village’s ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist), who brings women from different generations together, visits homes, answers questions on family planning, and connects them with services

Through our community engagement approach, we engage generations, recognizing that these decisions are best shaped within cohesive families. We also support ASHAs to create spaces for open dialogue

Together, they show how change happens — when women stand together, choices become stronger ❤
