With El Niño driving higher temperatures and more frequent extreme heat events, communities across India are facing longer, harsher, and more dangerous summers. The impacts are not felt equally. Outdoor workers, low income families, street vendors, delivery workers, and those living in densely built urban areas often bear the greatest burden, facing health risks, lost incomes, and limited access to cooling and relief.

Heatwave Rising is a climate rap anthem that brings together the stories, struggles, and resilience of communities living through extreme heat. From workers on the streets to families trying to cope with soaring temperatures, this track shines a light on a crisis that can no longer be ignored.

A continuation of last year’s heatwave song, this new release turns up the volume on the urgent call for climate action, demanding a future where people are protected from the growing impacts of climate change.

India is getting hotter. But is our budget ready for it?

Our new report, "Standing the Heat: An Analysis of Heatwave Financing in India’s Union Budget," reveals a troubling reality: despite rising temperatures and increasingly deadly heatwaves, only around 10% of India's heat-related budget directly addresses heat risks.

The report finds that heatwave response is spread across multiple ministries, with no dedicated national budget, no single agency accountable for the crisis, and no formal recognition of heatwaves as a standalone disaster.

Meanwhile, outdoor workers, farmers, street vendors, waste pickers, and low-income communities continue to bear the brunt of extreme heat.

As heatwaves become more frequent and severe, India needs more than fragmented responses. We need dedicated funding, stronger accountability, protection for heat-vulnerable workers, and investment in community cooling infrastructure.

Heat is not a future problem. It is a present-day emergency.

Swipe through to learn what the budget reveals, and what must change.

To everyone who did something, anything, for the planet today: thank you. Whether you’re restoring forests, growing food, carrying a reusable bottle, rescuing animals, organising your community, speaking up for cleaner air, or simply learning more about the world around you—thank you. The planet is held together by millions of everyday acts of care, and today feels like a good day to celebrate all of them.
