Today, on 11th April 2025, Tura Municipal Board, under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, organized a Mass Cleaning Drive across major commercial hubs of Tura.
The cleanliness initiative was carried out in collaboration with various civil society organizations including the Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP), A’chik A’song Environment Enthusiast Society (AAEES), Garo Students Union (GSU), Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), Central Puja Committee, and the Tura Traders Union.
The cleaning drive covered six major locations: Tura Bazaar, Nazing Bazaar, Ringrey, Chandmari, Araimile, and Hawakhana—areas identified as key commercial and high footfall zones within the town.
The objective of the initiative was not only to ensure physical cleanliness of these spaces but also to create a sense of awareness, responsibility, and ownership among the residents and business communities of Tura. It aimed to encourage collective action towards maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment.
A total of 180 individuals participated in the drive, reflecting strong community support and enthusiasm for maintaining cleanliness in public spaces.
As part of the initiative, blue and green dustbins were also distributed to all participants, promoting source segregation of waste and reinforcing the importance of proper waste disposal practices.
Tura Municipal Board also acknowledges the active involvement of the Nazing Bazaar Committee, who took part in the cleaning of Nazing Bazaar. Such collaborative efforts reflect the spirit of the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 and the shared responsibility of keeping our town clean and livable.
The Board looks forward to continued cooperation from all stakeholders and the public in future initiatives.
