Today, on 11th April 2025, Tura Municipal Board, under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, organized a Mass Cleaning Drive across major commercial hubs of Tura.

The cleanliness initiative was carried out in collaboration with various civil society organizations including the Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP), A’chik A’song Environment Enthusiast Society (AAEES), Garo Students Union (GSU), Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), Central Puja Committee, and the Tura Traders Union.

The cleaning drive covered six major locations: Tura Bazaar, Nazing Bazaar, Ringrey, Chandmari, Araimile, and Hawakhana—areas identified as key commercial and high footfall zones within the town.

The objective of the initiative was not only to ensure physical cleanliness of these spaces but also to create a sense of awareness, responsibility, and ownership among the residents and business communities of Tura. It aimed to encourage collective action towards maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment.

A total of 180 individuals participated in the drive, reflecting strong community support and enthusiasm for maintaining cleanliness in public spaces.

As part of the initiative, blue and green dustbins were also distributed to all participants, promoting source segregation of waste and reinforcing the importance of proper waste disposal practices.

Tura Municipal Board also acknowledges the active involvement of the Nazing Bazaar Committee, who took part in the cleaning of Nazing Bazaar. Such collaborative efforts reflect the spirit of the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 and the shared responsibility of keeping our town clean and livable.

The Board looks forward to continued cooperation from all stakeholders and the public in future initiatives.

Tura Municipal Board is committed to maintaining a clean and healthy environment for all residents. Our dedicated field staff are engaged from 6:00 AM till 11:00 PM, ensuring that streets are clean, thereby endeavouring to provide a clean, healthy, and conducive environment for the residents of the town.

Garbage collection is carried out in four phases:

▪️Morning: 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM
▪️Interim Cleaning: 10:00 AM onwards (Mop up Operation)
▪️Evening: 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM
▪️Interim Cleaning: 9:00 PM onwards (Mop up Operation)

However, efforts by the Board will not be successful nor the desired results achieved if residents continue to dispose off or deposit garbage bags on the roadsides.

We request all residents to be mindful and practice direct disposal of solid waste into garbage collection vehicles during the scheduled time and to refrain from littering on streets and public spaces to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.

Your cooperation is crucial for achieving our shared goal of a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful Tura. Let us join hands to make a lasting difference.

Together, we can create a better Tura!

Yesterday, on 28 October 2024, individuals found littering in T.D. Road, Nakham Bazaar and Hawakhana were fined as part of our commitment to creating a healthier and tidier environment for everyone. Our vigilance team is actively monitoring garbage-prone areas to discourage littering and ensure our roads stay clean.

To support this effort, we urge all citizens to responsibly dispose of waste by placing it directly into designated garbage collection vehicles, rather than leaving it on the streets or public spaces. By taking this simple step, each one of us can contribute to a cleaner, greener Tura for all to enjoy.

Let’s come together to protect the beauty and cleanliness of our town. Your cooperation is essential in keeping Tura beautiful and litter-free!
