The organization was founded in the year 2008 when a group of professionals headed by a visionary Mr. Sitaram Meher came together to discuss issues and challenges related to the life of the small and marginal farmers in our society. The realities that were unveiled in the course of discussions challenged them to do something about it. They were taken aback by the multi-faceted problems of the farm
ers and in spite of such hard work and labor by the entire families the gain that they get is very minimal. With intent to transform unorganized farmers into full fledged cooperative, twin farmer owned organizations were set up. The organizations were set up with a motive to make farm systems more profitable and sustainable and aim towards holistic development of the farming community. Pratima Agro and Paper pvt. is the profit arm that engages in building sustainable market linkages for farmers produce in national and international markets. Pratima organic grower group is the not for profit farmer owned organization which aims at sustainable development of the farming community through training, capacity building, and promotion of advocacy work on rainfed agriculture and related issues. Since the inception of the organization, a total number of 4000 farmers have taken up sustainable agriculture, are certified for organic and fair-trade standards, covering up to 4579 hectares.
