An Inspirational Impact Story of a Dedicated Volunteer Coach
In the rural area of Pattan, Baramulla district of Jammu & Kashmir, one name has become a symbol of dedication, compassion, and selfless service — Firdous Ahmad Najar.
A highly qualified individual holding degrees like B.Ed, M.Ed, NET, and CTET from the University of Kashmir, Firdous chose not to limit his knowledge to classrooms alone. Instead, he stepped onto football grounds with a mission to uplift special athletes through sports and humanity.
For the last two years, he has been serving as a volunteer coach with Special Olympics Bharat Kashmir Chapter, training special athletes in sports like football and futsal. His journey is not driven by money or recognition, but by passion, commitment, and the dream of seeing differently-abled athletes shine at bigger platforms.
Despite harsh winters, scorching summers, and difficult travel conditions, Firdous continued to accompany and train teams across different districts and states. Without receiving payment, he even spent from his own earnings to support these athletes — ensuring they get opportunities, exposure, and confidence.
His hard work has already transformed lives. In just two years, he has trained nearly 150 special athletes, and around 50 athletes have won medals at state and national level competitions. Behind every medal is his silent sacrifice, patience, and belief in the abilities of these athletes.
Today, his dedication is receiving wider recognition as he has been shortlisted for the Summer Olympic Games preparations for 2027 in Chile, USA. This achievement is not only personal success for him but also a proud moment for the entire Kashmir region and the Special Olympics movement.
Firdous Ahmad Najar proves that true coaching is not just about winning games — it is about changing lives, building confidence, and standing beside those who need support the most.
His story reminds us that real heroes often work quietly, away from the spotlight, but their impact echoes through the success and smiles of countless others.
