Contaminated Canal Water in Wadwan, Budgam; A Growing Health Concern

Budgam, 3 Jul, Iconic Kashmir: People of Wadwan area of district Budgam facing a serious and urgent health crisis. The water supplied to their homes is coming through an open canal that passes directly through agricultural fields. As a result, this water is likely contaminated with pesticide residues, mud, waste, and other harmful pollutants.

This untreated water is being used by local families for drinking, cooking, and other daily needs, putting the health of the entire community at serious risk.

At the same time, there has been a worrying rise in cancer cases and other life-threatening illnesses in our area, even among young and otherwise healthy individuals. Could this contaminated water be a hidden contributor?

Clean and safe water is not a demand; it is a basic human right. We urgently call upon the local administration, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, and health authorities to take this issue seriously and act before it escalates further—(Iconic Kashmir)

Bridge Collapses in Arizal, Khansahib After Heavy Rainfall, Villages Cut Off

Budgam, July 2: A vital bridge over Wamin Nallah in the Brass area of Arizal, Khansahib, collapsed on Wednesday following intense rainfall and flooding, severing road connectivity to several villages in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Locals said heavy rainwater and silted debris built up around the bridge’s foundation, causing it to give way under pressure. The bridge, a crucial link to schools, markets, healthcare centres, and administrative offices, has left hundreds of residents stranded and dependent on long, difficult alternate routes.

“This bridge was our only direct route to the main town. Its collapse has isolated us,” said a local representative, urging the district administration to construct a durable concrete replacement without delay.

With more monsoon rains expected, residents appealed to officials to prioritize restoration work to avoid further hardships.
