The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cells of NIT Silchar successfully conducted a Speaker Session on the POSH Act, 2013 on 20th January 2026 at the Guest House Auditorium. The session aimed to create awareness about the prevention, prohibition, and redressal of sexual harassment at workplaces and educational institutions.
The session was led by Ms. Taniya Sultana Laskar, Advocate, specializing in Women’s Rights, Human Rights, LGBTQIA+ Community Advocacy, and Domestic Violence Cases. The programme was conducted in a discussion-based and interactive format, encouraging active participation from students of all genders.
During the session, the speaker provided a comprehensive understanding of the POSH Act, 2013, including its objectives, legal provisions, definitions, and redressal mechanisms. Clear guidelines were shared regarding acceptable conduct, reporting procedures, and institutional responsibilities. Practical examples and real-life case discussions helped participants gain clarity on the implementation and relevance of the Act.
Active interaction between the speaker and participants enabled meaningful dialogue, clarification of doubts, and deeper understanding. By the end of the session, students gained a distinct and practical understanding of the Act and its significance in fostering safe, inclusive, and respectful environments.
The session concluded with valuable learnings, leaving participants more aware, informed, and responsible citizens.
