In a city choking on concrete, heat, and polluted air, taru Chhaya is proving that even 100 square feet can become a living forest. Through the âUrban Pocket Forestâ movement under Mission Green Bengal, neglected urban corners are being transformed into dense, oxygen-rich ecosystems using a modified Miyawaki technique.
These mini-forests grow 10 times faster, 30 times denser, and become self-sustaining within just two years. Packed with native fruit-bearing, medicinal, and bird-friendly species, they cool overheated neighbourhoods, absorb carbon emissions, recharge biodiversity, and create safe habitats for butterflies and small birds rapidly disappearing from cities.
taru Chhayaâs mission is not just plantationâit is urban ecological restoration. By encouraging schools, housing societies, corporates, and citizens to build DIY forests, he is leading a grassroots green revolution that can redefine Bengal's futureâone pocket forest at a time.
