At Chief Minister’s Youth Centre Madanlyngkhi, learning looked a little different this time ,through a phone lens.

From hunting for colours in everyday spaces to telling personal stories in six frames, learners explored how photography can help us notice, frame, and share the world around us.

Small moments. Big stories.
Until the next story.

A safe space isn't just a room with a closed door. It's a room where you can finally breathe.
For adolescents growing up in the hills of Meghalaya, that kind of space is rarer than we think. Not because no one cares — but because privacy, emotional permission, and social safety rarely come together in one place.

This post is about what we've observed on the ground. The exhale when a young person realises they won't be judged. The first time something difficult gets said out loud. The slow work of building trust — week after week, village after village.

Safe spaces don't build themselves. They take trained facilitators, community trust, and the quiet discipline of showing up consistently.
That's the work. And it matters.

Building CMYC for 2026 means slowing down and choosing depth over spread.

Over the next year, we’re focusing on strengthening what already exists and growing it into block-level CMYCs. That means spending more time in fewer places, working closely with young people, families, and local leaders to understand what learning needs to look like in each block.

This phase is about conversations before calendars. Listening before designing. Showing up consistently enough for trust to form.

You’ll see more community meetings, block-level activities, skill-based workshops, and spaces where young people can learn, make, and share their work in ways that matter beyond the classroom.

What we’re building isn’t just infrastructure. It’s relationships, shared responsibility, and centres that communities feel invested in.

There’s a lot ahead. And we’re excited to build it together.

This year was shaped by young people, partnerships, and shared effort.

From bringing the Youth Mela to life, to launching the MPOWER CMYC journey, to celebrating learners who rose to the state level stage — each milestone reflects what’s possible when communities and institutions work together.

We carry these learnings and wins forward as we continue building spaces and opportunities for youth across Meghalaya.

Thank you to every young person, partner, and stakeholder who made this year what it was.

Extend our gratitude to

It takes a village — and many hands — to bring the CMYC vision to life.
Over the past weeks, our team has met with DCs and BDOs across districts to align plans, receive recommendations, and gain approvals for site assessments.

This collaboration marks the start of the next phase — working together with communities to identify spaces where young people can learn, grow, and lead.

Every voice matters. Every partnership counts.

Every Chief Minister's Youth Centre starts long before its doors open. It begins with groundwork — planning, coordination and listening.

Right now, our teams are preparing for Site Assessments across the blocks. This preparation helps us ensure the process is safe, inclusive and transparent. As a result every CMYC stands on strong foundations.

Currently we have made touchpoints with Block offices and local authorities to kickstart our search for buildings that would fit the needs of CMYC!

We are also open to suggestions from the community if the spaces they think could become a home for their CMYC.

Get in touch with us if you want to know more!

Every youth centre starts long before it opens its doors. It begins with the groundwork — planning, coordinating, and listening to the people who’ll use it.

Right now, our teams are getting ready for site assessments across the blocks. This prep helps us keep the process safe, inclusive, and transparent, so every CMYC is built on real trust and solid foundations.

In the coming weeks, we’ll start visiting districts — East Khasi Hills, West Garo Hills, East Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, and Ri Bhoi.

And we’ll also be inviting communities to share spaces they believe could become the home of their CMYC.

We’re taking a short pause at the CMYC — and there’s a good reason for it.

Over the next few weeks, our team will be visiting different locations to assess buildings that could serve our young people better. The goal is simple: find a space that is safer, more accessible, and truly supportive of youth learning and growth.

This isn’t a closure. It’s us making sure we build something that actually works for our community.

We’ll keep you updated as we move, and we’re always open to hearing your thoughts!

A better space for our youth is on the way — thank you for staying with us through this transition.

Not every child gets to stay in school. But that doesn’t mean the learning stops.

Disaibor is 17. He left school in Class 4. With nine siblings and parents who work as daily wage labourers, life asked him to grow up faster than most kids his age.

Still, he never let go of his curiosity.

He comes to the CMYC Library whenever he can — to read, listen to stories, and draw. Some days he speaks up, some days he just listens… but he shows up, and that matters. Six of his siblings join him too. This is their space to learn, imagine, and be children.

The library has helped him read better, express himself more confidently, and find joy in learning again. Not for marks. Not for exams. But for himself.

His story is a reminder:
Learning doesn’t only happen in a classroom. Sometimes, all a child needs is a safe space, a book, and someone who believes they can grow.
