Madurai is hot and dry for eight months of the year. Mild Cold winds are experienced during January and February. The hottest months are from March to July. The city experiences a moderate and humid climate from August to October, tempered by heavy rain and thundershowers, the average annual rainfall for the Madurai district is about 85.76 cm and a slightly cooler climate from December to February.
Temperatures during summer generally reach a maximum of 42 °C and a minimum of 26.3 °C although temperatures up to 44 °C are not uncommon. Winter temperatures range between 29.6 °C and 18 °C.
HOW TO REACH MADURAI
By Air: Madurai International Airport, first used by the Royal Air Force in World War II in 1942. Is located 15 km (30 minutes) from IOCL Quarters. The airport was declared a customs airport in 2012 allowing limited number of international flights. It offers direct domestic flights to Major cities in India and international Flights.
By Rail: Madurai Junction is an important railway junction in southern Tamil Nadu and constitutes a separate division of the Southern Railway zone.(4.3 Km)from IOCL Quarters.Madurai has rail connectivity with most important cities and towns in India.
By Road: The National Highways NH 7, NH 45B, NH 208 and NH 49 pass through Madurai. Madurai is the headquarters of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Madurai) and provides local and inter city bus transport across four districts namely Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, and Virudhunagar. Madurai has four major bus stands, namely, Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Terminus (MIBT (3.1Km from IOCL Quarters), Arappalayam(5.2 km), Palanganatham (7.8 km)and Periyar Bus stand(5.2km)

There are many good schools available in Madurai and Tamil language is compulsory except in Kendriya Vidyalaya school (1.1 km).Its quite difficult to get admission there but good option for kids moving from kv to kv. For toddlers and young kids nearby school is available Le Chatelier Matriculation School(180 m) it’s a Tamil board school and from quarters mostly toddlers join this school. For higher standard Mahatma Global gateway CBSE board(7.6Km) is a good option.
