Wake Up Pune was launched in 2006 as a coalition working to challenge the misconceptions, ignorance, fear and stigma surrounding HIV and AIDS in the city of Pune, India. People of every caste, class, race, gender and religion are affected! There’s a huge need to spread awareness to everyone while lessening the levels of stigma and discrimination directed towards people living with HIV. Wake Up Pun
e aims to increase awareness in the larger community, and also to foster a new attitude about HIV in Pune. BE HIV POSITIVE! This means:
• Positive about EDUCATION - educating ourselves and others about HIV and AIDS
• Positive about AWARENESS - raising awareness in our wider community
• Positive about SUPPORT – reaching out to people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS
So many people are unaware about HIV, or are only partially informed. This ignorance leads to fear, which causes stigma and discrimination. Stigma and discrimination lead to more silence, and so the vicious cycle continues. Help us BREAK this cycle... by volunteering with us, attending our events, donating, getting your friends involved… do a little service for the soul! Take the lead and get involved! YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
