Joy Of Impermanence

Joy Of Impermanence We’re all about sustainable solutions & well-being, while regenerating a degraded and eroded tropical landscape—with community at the heart of it all.

We’re using local expertise in water management and ecosystem restoration, blending it with well being Joy Of Impermanence is a community that was created during the Design Phase of the 1 month Ecovillage Design Education (EDE) course that took place in Auroville, throughout December and January. The course was organised by the Global Ecovillage Network and Gaia Education. We are a Core Team of 8

people, all from very different backgrounds and having a previous experience in community life. A motto we resonate strongly with is "be the change you want to see in the world", and this is why we have gathered and created this community within Auroville. Our 5 founding Principles are:

1. Impermanence- We will embody the spiritual form of Impermanence, which means that after 5 years of creating a community, we will leave it and move on to another project, thus creating a material detachment. The project may be followed up by a different group of people or used for a different purpose once we complete our 5 year commitment.

2. Self Sufficiency- We will try to be as self-sustainable as possible on the ecological, financial, energy and material aspects. We will grow our own food, use local ressources, and explore experimental low - cost housing through various building techniques.

3. Collective Intelligence - We will implement and apply collective intelligence tools and methodologies shared to us by experts in the field and thus create a true sense of community and Collective Intelligence.

4. Do it Yourself - We will live by this philosophy, meaning that we will do everything ourselves without depending on exterior labour force.

5. Sustainability - We will experiment with closed loop eco systems and be as sustainable as possible on every aspect of our research and development. Other than having founding principles, we have also have "5 Missions" within Auroville. These are:

1.Enrich Land: We commit to enriching land we use for our community by giving it a new life through creating garden spaces, small scale farms and various plantations including reforestation if needed.

2. Improve relations: We commit to improving the relationships with the local people who surround us, as we are aware that it is crucial to be in good terms with the local people who are native to the land. By establishing a firm and true contact with the locals, a true exchange can then happen.

3. Protect Land: We commit to protecting Auroville land from encroachment by local people who sometimes take over parcels of terrain that do not belong to them. This will be done giving new life and activity to un-used Auroville lands which are prone to encroachment.

4.Stimulate Creativity: We commit to stimulating creativity by experimenting as much as possible with alternative building techniques, creating eco-systems, using a co-working space for audio-visual content, low tech experiments, arts, etc.

5.Showroom to Auroville: We commit to being a community which shows and demonstrates the various and different technologies, building techniques and research that Auroville has developed so far, in order to become a concentrated area for applied research.
