With the influx of labours from outside states to Kerala, it has been noticed that the issues in society are increasing randomly than ever before. They are obviously committing wrongdoings as their involvement in several antisocial activities are featured in newspaper daily. The way in which their character is moulded relies hugely upon the circumstances from which they hail. Most of them are illi
terates, victims of natural calamities or any other sort of misfortunes. All the said factors impose negative impacts on their character. Their situation needs empathetic consideration and a curative approach. Association for Public Welfare (APW) is a noble scheme initiated to provide labourers with all the basic information and enlightenment that are inevitable for them. Some of the key inclusions planned to be delivered are entailed below:
Consciousness about safety at workplace and knowledge of employment laws will be imparted. This will lessen the risky circumstances at their places of work and prevent them from being exploited by their employers or contractors. They will be acquainted regarding their proneness to diseases at workplaces and lodgings. The awareness programs will be instigated by collaborating with Government Health Centres. The importance and benefits of insurance programs will be lectured. Also he/she will be assisted to open bank accounts and entertained to develop a savings habit. Differentarts and sports events for minimising or alleviating their mental pressure will be organized. Awareness classes to address the major issue of addiction to drinks, drugs and to***co products will be carried out with government support. If the above mentioned goals can be accomplished, we can definitely build up a cultured, refined and value-added union of labours who will surely be prolific for our society and all other entities that a part of it.
