The HSS has tied up with the C.S.R. Sarma College to maintain at any given point of time, a nursery of at least 10,000 saplings of different tree species, including Red Sanders, sandalwood, Sacred fig and Almond, in the sprawling college campus.

Samiti member S.P. Mallikarjun Rao wanted the civic body to show suitable land for the Samiti to plant tree saplings and nurture them. The State government should take up tree plantation drive in a big way so that it became a movement, adds another Samiti member N. Kotisuryanarayana.

“We raise funds on our own. But take tree guards as donations from like-minded persons. On no account we take donation in cash from outsiders,” they say.

The Ongole Market Committee has come forward to grow 400 tree saplings supplied by the HSS on its premises.
