Migration Information and Resource Centre - MIRC

Under the aegis of Aide et Action, MiRC addresses migration in South Asia. Early Childhood Care on Education in brick kilns of Tamil Nadu and Odisha.

MiRC acts as a catalyst in research, information sharing, micro-level experimentations, networking and influencing policies at the national level and in various migration source and destination states and cities of India. Key Initiatives:
We closely work with academic institutions, government departments, and civil society organizations dealing with labour, education and rural development to engag

e in research and advocacy on social and economic, child rightss and education issues surrounding migration. We educate various organizations to understand, plan and manage migration intervention focusing on child rights and education, labour rights and entitlements. We help in perspective building and conceptualizationn of the migration intervention undertaken by partners and regional offices of AeA in seven cities of India. We have partnered with the government of Andhra Pradesh, tamil Nadu and Odisha and also with international agencies like UNICEF, ILO, Google Inc and Bernard van Leer Foundation in our effort to work with migratory population.

Launching of Uniform, slippers and learning materials distribution to migrant children at brick kilns in Odisha with support of Odisha police housing and welfare corporation. Mr. Saumendra Priyadarshi, IPS, MD of the corporation launched the distribution today at GRAND brick kiln near Bhubaneswar. We are reaching out to 1150 accompanying children of migrant workers in 32 brick kilns of Khurda, Cuttack and Ganjam districts.
Aide et Action in collaboration with UNICEF, police, local administrations and kiln establishments making brick kilns free from child labour. Creating a model of children's access to ECCE, education, health and protection services at work sites.

The cultural festival Holi celebrated in 28 brick kilns of Odisha where 853 accompanying migrant children participated and enjoyed the festival with fun and happiness. The facility owners contributed with colors and snacks for the children to celebrate like their native places..The migrant community also joined and made the event a grand success..

Non residential seasonal hostel Will be launched in Ganjam district of Odisha to continue education of accompanying migrant children of Brick kiln workers. Government of Odisha has made budgetary provisions based on pilot intervention and evidence based advocacy of Aide et Action and UNICEF. A stakeholders consultation organised at DPC conference hall where a comprehensive plan developed to make brick kilns of Ganjam free from child labor..

A pilot intervention on addressing climate change induced migration in Ganjam and Kendrapara district. Setting up Migration resource centre at Dist and block level, mobile migration resource centre, psychosocial counselling with helpline number and inclusion with government livelihood program. Facilitating safe and informed interstate and crossboarder migration with adequate orientation and counseling.

International women's day celebration by migration women and adolescent at the brick kilns of Khorda, Cuttack and Ganjam. It was an off day for women workers and owners sponsered their snacks and materials for activities. All the women and adolescents enjoyed their day with song, folk dance, Rangoli. There was also awareness meetings on their rights, safety and basic entitlements at destination with involvement of local frontline workers..
