15.08.25: Lata Memorial Public School, in collaboration with the Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti, celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great pride and enthusiasm today, August 15, 2025. The program was graced by Shri Bhakta Bahadur Chettri, a retired Army Officer, as the Chief Guest, and Smt Rajni Singh Cintury, President of the School Management Committee (SMC), as the Guest of Honour. Mr. Manish Pradhan, Principal cm Director of LMPS, and Shri Krishna Chettri, President of the SGSS, attended as Special Guests.

The LMPS students participated in a parade that helped them learn about India's freedom struggle and encouraged patriotism, unity, and discipline. They also took an active part in patriotic songs, sports, and a cultural program. The celebration ended with a ceremony to distribute medals and certificates to the students.

First Sawan Somvar Water Offering at Sanatan Shivalaya Mandir

14.07.25: The first-ever Sawan Somvar water offering ceremony was held at the Sanatan Shivalaya Mandir in Tinek Shantinagar, Singtam. The event also marked the grand inauguration of the newly built temple. Devotees gathered in large numbers to offer water to the Shiva Lingam, beginning the auspicious month of Sawan with prayers for blessings and peace.

The occasion was graced by Head Lobella of Karma Thuji Choling Monastery, Shantinagar, along with Pradeep Tamang and Krishna Mokhtan, Vice President and General Secretary of the Shantinagar Monastery Committee and others.

Krishna Chettri, President of Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti, expressed his gratitude for the community's participation in the event. “This is an important moment for our Shivalaya, and we’re excited to continue this tradition,” he said. He shared a local story, mentioning that elders believed this place was the resting spot of 'Nag,' with a small Shiva Lingam where people worshipped. Many spoke of dreaming about Nag and Lord Shiva.

After a community meeting, everyone agreed to build the Shivalaya. Chettri also announced that an organizing committee had been set up for the temple’s maintenance.

The 211th Bhanu Jayanti Celebration was observed by the members of Shantinagar Goan Sudhar Samiti at the Badminton Court, Shantinagar. A very short program was organised.

The gathering began with a two-minute silence in honour of the late Shri Sanu Lama, Padma Shri Awardee and writer of the famed song - Jaha Bagcha Tista Rangit paying respect to his contribution and memory.

During the event, Sanskrit students Santosh Dahal and Dinesh Bhattarai from Thakur Bari Mandir, Singtam, graced the occasion with their recitations. Santosh Dahal presented a few verses from the Bhanu Bhakta Ramayan, while Dinesh Bhattarai beautifully recited a Nepali poem, showcasing their talent in Sanskrit and Nepali literature. They also performed Swasti Vaachan.

The event was further enriched by the presence of Krishna Chettri, President of the Shantinagar Goan Sudhar Samiti, who hosted the ceremony and ensured its smooth flow. Ish*ta Pradhan gave the vote of thanks.

SGSS Congratulates Shri Ujjwal Pandey on Promotion; Lauds Efforts of Singtam Nagar Panchayat

Singtam, 13 June 2025:
The Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti (SGSS) extended heartfelt congratulations to Shri Ujjwal Pandey, Municipal Executive Officer (MEO) of Singtam Nagar Panchayat, on his recent promotion to the post of Deputy Registrar/Senior Audit Officer.

A delegation of SGSS members, led by President Krishna Chettri, visited Shri Pandey at his office to convey their best wishes and express their appreciation for his dedicated service. Shri Pandey was lauded for his unwavering commitment, tireless efforts, and consistent contributions to the development of Singtam.

During the visit, President Krishna Chettri also took the opportunity to congratulate Shri Suresh Tamang , President of Singtam Nagar Panchayat, for the remarkable progress made under his leadership. He commended the Panchayat’s initiatives in improving cleanliness, infrastructure, and civic awareness across the town.

Among the initiatives praised were the placement of flower pots at shop entrances, ongoing awareness campaigns promoting cleanliness (Swachhata), and night patrolling efforts to maintain hygiene standards in Singtam. President Chettri described these actions as “truly commendable” and exemplary for other communities.

He further appealed to the citizens of Singtam to support the Nagar Panchayat by participating actively in cleanliness drives and maintaining hygienic practices. He urged everyone to segregate waste before handing it over to garbage collection vans to facilitate proper waste disposal.

Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti Celebrates World Environment Day with Plantation Drive along Ranikhola Walkway

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti (SGSS) organized a plantation drive along the picturesque Ranikhola Walkway in Shantinagar. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from community members and organizations alike.

Ms. Deepa Chettri, Vice President of 09 Chisopani GPU, graced the occasion along with members from the Nirmala Devi Foundation, Shantinagar, and SGSS. A total of 150 saplings of various species were planted to promote greenery and environmental awareness.

During the event, Ms. Deepa Chettri announced a new notification from the 09 Chisopani Gram Panchayat Unit, which aims to preserve the cleanliness and beauty of the walkway and its surroundings. The guidelines include:
• No plucking of flowers from the walkway area and nearby surroundings.
• No disposal of garbage into the Ranikhola River.
• Mandatory proper disposal of pet waste by dog owners.
• Keeping the area neat and clean at all times.

To enforce these measures, penalties have been introduced:
• ₹5000 for throwing garbage,
• ₹500 for plucking flowers,
• ₹1000 for littering or improper disposal of dog waste.

An information board detailing these rules and penalties has been installed at the walkway for public awareness.

The 09 Chisopani GPU and Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti have jointly appealed to all citizens to follow the guidelines and contribute towards maintaining the Ranikhola Walkway as a clean, green, and peaceful public space.

Mr. Krishna Chettri, President of SGSS, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the GPU for their continued support. He also extended special thanks to the Nirmala Devi Foundation for their dedicated efforts in helping keep the walkway clean over the years.

26.01.25: Devika Lamichaney, former Vice President of SGSS, hoisted the tricolor flag as Shantinagar observed Republic Day with a river belt cleanliness drive and picnic. Krishna Chettri, President of SGSS, led the Rani Khola cleanliness drive, appealing to every individual to stop polluting the river and help make the environment better for future generations.

Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti Meeting for Republic Day Celebration

23.01.25: Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti (SGSS) held a meeting under the leadership of President Krishna Chettri at the Badminton Court. The agenda focused on Republic Day celebrations scheduled for 26th January 2025. Events include flag hoisting, a cleanliness drive along the Rani Khola Walkway, and a community picnic.

Organizations and house owners are invited to participate in the drive starting from the Juice Factory to Lal Bazar at 7:30 AM.

A fee of ₹500 per family will be collected for the picnic. Interested individuals can contact Rita Sherpa, Menuka Sundas, or Anjali Diyali.

Additionally, ₹23,137 from Deusi funds will be used for Samaj Ghar maintenance. The Annual General Meeting of SGSS is planned for March 2025.

Prior to the event, a two-minute moment of silence was observed in memory of the deceased family members and relatives of SGSS members. Additionally, Krishna Chettri, President of the Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti, addressed the tragedies across the hills caused by landslides and other natural calamities.

Members of all ages actively participated, adding to the joy and spirit of the occasion. The celebration highlighted the community’s dedication to preserving traditions, with lively songs, dances, and blessings exchanged among participants.
