HOW IT ALL STARTED? Working as a fellow in Teach For India, we teach students who come from very strenuous and defenseless communities with their respective struggles and bright spots in low-income private and government run schools. One day while watching a movie, one of our kids, enthralled and fascinated
by the movie asked, “Didi, how is a film made?” This is when we thought why not try and teach them how it’s made. Her curiosity led to a series of conversations among us that made us realize how art has always been the business of the bourgeois and has been created and used as per their disposal. Film making being another such art form, is also produced by the elite and consumed by all. Times are changing now, and with the democratization of art, the power to make an impact is open to all. Why deprive our brilliant kids of such an opportunity? To be a filmmaker, all you need is a unique perspective, a story to tell and a camera to film. Our kids have powerful perspectives and untold stories. All they need is a good camera and some technical expertise to venture into this yet unexplored field. And this is how "Qaasid" - Teach for India fellow led project came into powe. A project through which we are inviting students from low-income private and government schools across Delhi, to become artists by providing them with technical expertise and a platform to bring power to them and cultivate new and fresh voices that deserve to be heard. With students' unique perspectives and continuous learning of the art of film making, the project will help kids build creative confidence and achieve self-efficacy by providing them a platform to showcase their own creations and acquire several soft and hard skills via art of film making. This journey of learning will act as personal transformation for kids as it will provide them with opportunities to explore creative diversity in front and behind the camera, present themes which are under-explored in mainstream media form perspectives and redesign their own experiences. I will help our kids' ideas fly and build creative confidence that they need, they can do whatever is set out to do for them and become creative confident leaders. HOW WILL THIS BE DONE? It will be carried out under the guidance of experts who will assist students throughout the year with the monthly execution of training modules on content knowledge and experiential learning through exposing them to practical aspect of film making aiming to screen documentaries made by the kids at the end of the year. The project will help kids build creative confidence and achieve self-efficacy by providing them a platform to showcase their own creations via documentary film making. HOW CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE CAUSE? To make “Qaasid” successful we need your wholehearted support, in any way possible, big or small, which is essential in our endeavor to enable kids to build and exhibit strong craft. These funds will be utilized to enable the learning to be experiential through tool kits that we aim to provide all our kids in the program and for other logistical purposes. We invite interested sponsors and donors to help us bring this vision alive. DONATE NOW @
