World Cleanup Day - an offering of selfless service to Amma on Her 72nd Birthday

A dedicated team effort and a spirit of selfless service was evident on Saturday, 20th September, as devotee volunteers across age groups joined the Cleanliness Drive in the vicinity of the Math.

The introductory session started with the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony by the invited dignitaries that included officials from the Solid waste management Department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The officers, in their speeches, hailed our Math for always showing solidarity in all their initiatives.

Divya Som, a trained Amrita Yoga instructor, spoke about Amma's emphasis on cleanliness. Swami Avyayamritananda, the co-ordinator of the entire event, remarked about how Amma's Amala Bharatam concept had found resonance in the Swachchata hi Seva campaigns of the Government.
Thereafter, the event was flagged off by the guests, and the group, equipped with brooms, gloves, shovels and garbage bags, set out to clean up the stretch of the road outside.

The garden opposite the Math was also given a s**c and span look, after the strewn leaves, plastics and other waste were removed.

This was followed by the planting of saplings in the back garden of the Math.

Lunch was served, and everyone dispersed, with thankfulness to Amma for this blessed opportunity to help make the planet a bit cleaner, greener and sustainable.

Celebrating Amma's 72nd Birthday & Onam 2025

It was a dual celebration on the 13th of September, when devotees gathered to join the Guru Paduka Vandanam and the Uma Maheshwara Homam in the decorated Ashram hall.
Swami Avyayamritananda who co-ordinated the day's proceedings, welcomed one and all, regaling them with incidents from his journey with Amma. He also highlighted the Onam harvest festival, with a narrative of Lord Vishnu's fifth Avatara - Vamana.

Celebrating the Onam spirit, the audience was treated to a royally dressed Mahabali, and a young Vamana, making an entry, to the accompaniment of the traditional Kerala drum, the idakka. All these lent the occasion an authentic look.

Two interesting segments of the day's program included the Matruvani prize distribution ceremony and Seedball distribution.
While around 70 devotees from across the city were awarded prizes for helping towards the noble cause of Matruvani, young student teams from around 7 institutions in Navi Mumbai were handed over seedballs to be dispersed. These students had joined our Seedball Preparation Campaign last month. They were extremely delighted to take the seedballs, and promised to help in all future environmental initiatives that we would undertake.

After the Homam concluded, devotees offered sacred oblations into the fire.

The Maha Arati was followed by the traditional Ona Sadhya, as Mahaprasad.

Indeed, the day was a celebration of Love Incarnate, our Amma, as also the joyful camaraderie among Her children.
