"VASUDAIVA KUTUMBAKAM"I'M PROUD TO BE A SWAYAMSEVAKPROUD TO BE A HINDU"BHARATH MATHA KI JAI"The RSS was founded in 1925 as an educational group to train Hindu men by character-building to unite the Hindu community,[8] to counter British colonialism in India and suppress Muslim separatism.[9] Since their foundation they have espoused an Anti-Muslim agenda and have taken part in a great many r
iots.[3] They drew inspiration from European right wing groups during WWII.[9] RSS volunteers participated in various political and social movements including the Indian independence movement[1] and the group became an extremely prominent Hindu nationalist group in India.[9] By the 1990s, the group had established numerous schools, charities and clubs to spread its ideological beliefs.[9]
It has been criticised as an extremist and a paramilitary group.[10][11] The RSS carried out acts of violence against Muslims when founded in 1925,[12] and have since, formed militant groups who engage in attacks on minority groups throughout India.[13] In 2004 it was designated a terrorist organization by the Terrorism Research Center.[14]
It was banned by the British Raj,[9] and then thrice by the post-independence Indian government — first in 1948 when Nathuram Godse, a former RSS member,[15] assassinated Mahatma Gandhi;[9][16][17] then during the emergency (1975–78); and after the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992.
