Satyr Tragopan

The Satyr Tragopan is a very beautiful and rare Himalayan pheasant species.
It is found in the northern Himalayas of India — Uttarakhand, Himachal, Sikkim, Arunachal — and also in Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet.

⭐ Main Identification

The male is very colorful — red, blue, black, and white patterns

The female is brownish and less colorful to help her camouflage in the forest

Found at elevations of 2,400–4,000 meters

It roosts on trees but feeds mostly on the ground

🍃 Food Plants / Diet

The Satyr Tragopan mainly eats plant-based food:

Wild berries

Leaves and tender shoots

Rhododendron leaves

Bamboo shoots

Herbs and small grasses

Fallen fruits

SATYR TRAGOPAN (Tragopan satyra) is a colorful and elusive species of pheasant found in the Himalayan region. It's known for its striking plumage, especially in males, and elaborate courtship displays.

🧬 Physical Description:
Males are especially vibrant:
