SUPREME COURT RECOGNISES S*X WORK AS PROFESSION:

The Supreme Court of India ruled that voluntary, consensual s*x work by adults is a legal profession and that consenting s*x workers are entitled to dignity, constitutional rights, and police protection. The police are strictly directed not to harass, arrest, or penalize consenting adults engaged in s*x work.

In brothel raids, the Court directed that adult, consenting s*x workers should not be arrested, penalized, or detained. The police and authorities were specifically instructed to respect the consent of adult s*x workers, ensuring they are not detained in protective homes against their will.

The Court explicitly stated that the presence of condoms should not be construed by law enforcement as evidence of a criminal offences.

Consenting s*x workers retain the right to say no and to refuse s*xual in*******se. If a s*x worker is a victim of s*xual assault, they are entitled to all legal and medical facilities typically provided to survivors of s*xual assault.

The media and authorities must take utmost care not to reveal the identities of s*x workers—whether as victims or accused—during raids, arrests, or rescue operation.
