The Indo-US Cytometry workshops were initiated in 2002 by Dr. Awtar Krishan from the University of Miami in collaboration with Dr. Ranbir Sobti of Panjab University, India and Dr. Arvinder Singh of BD Cytometry, India with the express purpose of interfacing Indian researchers with experts in cytometry from abroad. With the collaboration and active support of instrument manufacturers (who provide

their latest instruments and staff for the workshops), the Live Education Task Force of the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC) and an important group of core faculty members, a large number of researchers from all over the world have been trained in the latest applications of laser flow cytometry in bio-medical research.

When Indian poet and literature laureate Rabindranath Tagore met American author and educator Helen Keller, who was blind and deaf.

The two met during Tagore's 1930 trip to the United States, when the two spoke at the same event.

"Sitting beside Rabindranath Tagore and sharing his thoughts is like spending one's days beside the Sacred River, drinking deep of honeyed wisdom," said Keller.
