🌱🌳 It’s Not About Planting Trees… It’s About Growing Them

At the Vriksh Vardhan – 2nd International Arboriculture Conference 2026, renowned arboricultural expert Henry Kuppen shared a powerful insight β€” the success of urban forestry isn’t measured by how many trees we plant, but how many truly survive and thrive.

With over 40 years of experience, he emphasized the importance of tree establishment, focusing on soil health, right species selection, planting techniques, and nature-based solutions. 🌿

In dense urban environments, innovative methods may support planting β€” but long-term success depends on a holistic, science-driven approach that prioritizes ecology over numbers.

His feedback highlighted how conferences like this are crucial in shifting the mindset from mass plantation to meaningful, sustainable tree growth.

Because the future of our cities depends not just on planting trees β€” but on helping them live. 🌍

πŸ„πŸŒ³ The Hidden World Inside Trees

At the Vriksh Vardhan – 2nd International Arboriculture Conference 2026, mycologist Vhyom Bhatt shared a fascinating perspective on wood decaying fungi (WDF) and their role in urban ecosystems.

While fungi are essential for nutrient recycling and ecosystem balance, they can also silently impact tree stability and safety in cities β€” often long before visible signs appear.

Through his insights, Vhyom highlighted why understanding fungi is crucial for arboriculture, helping experts make better decisions in tree risk assessment, diagnosis, and urban tree management.

His feedback on the conference emphasized how platforms like this are vital to spread awareness about the science behind trees and the need for informed, sustainable urban forestry practices. 🌱

Because protecting trees starts with understanding what lies beneath the surface.

When global experts acknowledge the value of a platform, it reflects the strength of the conversations happening within it.

John Parker, CEO of the Arboricultural Association (UK), shared his experience of attending the in Mumbai β€” calling it a truly collaborative space where ideas, knowledge, and global perspectives come together.

With over a decade of experience in public sector tree management and active involvement in international urban forestry platforms, his perspective carries deep relevance.

He highlighted the presence of high-quality speakers from India, a diverse and engaged audience, and the overall energy of learning and exchange that defined the event.

For him, it wasn’t just a conference β€” it was a brilliant experience.
Moments like these reinforce why such platforms are essential β€” not just for sharing knowledge, but for building a global community working towards better, greener, and more equitable cities.

Learning how to build cities without losing trees β€” from someone who has been doing it for over four decades.

We were privileged to host Jeremy Barrell, Managing Director of Barrell Tree Consultancy (UK), for an insightful workshop on Protecting Trees During Planning & Development at IES College of Architecture, Bandra.

With 45+ years of experience, the session went beyond theory and focused on practical, on-ground solutions β€” from tree valuation and canopy analysis to no-dig construction methods and protecting root zones during development.

One key takeaway was clear:
Urban development and tree conservation are not opposing goals β€” they can coexist, if planned scientifically.

Jeremy also shared valuable observations on Mumbai β€” a city with a strong existing tree resource, but with immense potential to improve how trees are integrated and protected as development continues.

With around 50+ delegates, including passionate students of architecture and landscape design, the workshop highlighted why engaging the next generation is critical for building more livable cities.

Because the future of our cities will depend on the decisions we make today β€” during planning, not after construction.

Cities today are facing problems they were never designed to handle β€” flooding, rising heat, and declining green cover.

In this video, Dr. Sangram Chavan, Senior Scientist at ICAR Baramati, brings a clear perspective on why arboriculture and urban forestry are no longer optional, but essential in today’s climate reality.

With over 12 years of experience, 50+ research publications, and books like Competitive Forestry and Promising Agroforestry Tree Species in India, his insights highlight a critical gap β€” cities are growing without planning for trees.

From the need for structured urban forestry policies to the importance of selecting the right tree for the right purpose at the right time, this conversation goes beyond awareness and focuses on practical direction.

The 2nd International Arboriculture Conference in Mumbai is creating a platform for exactly these discussions β€” where research, policy, and real-world challenges come together.

Because solving urban problems requires more than planting trees. It requires understanding them.

🌿 Designing Climate-Resilient Cities Through the Right Trees 🌳

At the Vriksh Vardhan – 2nd International Arboriculture Conference 2026, Dr. Sangram Chavan shared a powerful framework on climate-resilient species selection β€” highlighting that the future of urban forests depends not just on planting more trees, but planting the right trees in the right places.

From carbon sequestration and pollution control to urban cooling and biodiversity, trees deliver critical ecosystem services β€” but only when matched correctly to local climate and soil conditions. 🌱

His research in Baramati (Pune) emphasizes a shift from traditional species-based approaches to site-specific, data-driven planning, ensuring long-term sustainability and resilience in our cities.

A step forward towards smarter urban forestry β€” where science meets sustainability.

At the Vriksh Vardhan – 2nd International Arboriculture Conference 2026, Hon’ble Shri Sanjay Pandey ji, Chairman of Nanaji Deshmukh Pratishthan, shared inspiring insights into the organization’s impactful work across Maharashtra.

In collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra, the initiative has successfully planted 1,22,000+ trees in rural areas, contributing to stronger ecosystems, improved livelihoods, and a greener future. 🌿

This effort highlights how community participation, partnerships, and consistent action can drive real environmental change β€” especially in regions where trees play a vital role in sustainability and development.

A powerful reminder that meaningful impact begins with collective responsibility and long-term commitment to nature.
