The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma flagged off 80 new Sanjeevani Mobile Medical Units (MMUs), dedicating them to the people of Assam.
“The launch of 80 MMUs marks a major step in delivering quality healthcare to every rural household in Assam,” said Hon’ble Health Minister Shri Ashok Singhal during the flagging-off ceremony held at the Veterinary College Field, Khanapara on October 16.
He added, "The MMU's are equipped to conduct tests for diabetes, blood pressure, hypertension, pregnancy and diagnosis of diseases like malaria, dengue etc. Post diagnosis these MMUs will also facilitate referrals and transfer to the patients to the nearest health facility. As the Health Minister of Assam, it gives me immense pleasure today to have our Hon'ble Chief Minister launch these MMU's and provide the keys of a critical healthcare service to the beneficiaries of Assam."
This initiative aims to strengthen village-level healthcare delivery, especially across tea garden areas and remote communities. Each MMU is equipped to conduct diagnostic tests, provide medicines, offer tele-consultations, and facilitate referrals—ensuring accessible and quality healthcare to every corner of the state.
The Sanjeevani Village Health Outreach Program operates across 30 districts, covering over 62 lakh rural population and 3,000 villages, including tea gardens. Since inception, it has served 1.30 crore beneficiaries.
