Shramyog is a People's Organization. We started Shramyog as completely a volunteer based informal group of friends who enjoyed discussing about social develop-ment programs and schemes. Gradually the discussions became more vibrant and we were no longer content with just talk! We wanted to do something and make a real difference. Scale didn’t matter to us. We spent the year 2009 in discussions and planning. Through a democratic process we agreed to focus on certain development is-sues. We raised some money through charity and dona-tions and started our first base of operations at a remote village in Uttarakhand. We believe in active participa-tion of the entire community, this belief was appreciated and the numbers started to grow. As we increased our area of operations we felt the need for more human and monetary resources. It was no longer efficient to continue working as a mere informal, volunteer based group only. The team wanted a more formal commitment which could co-exist with their regular life and livelihood. In a general meeting in 2010 it was decided to formalize our group as a registered NGO and as a direct result of this decision, on 11th February 2011 “Shramyog” became a registered NGO. The name Shramyog is derived from “Shram” which means “hard work” and “Yog” which means “organized union”. As the name describes, we are a community of hardworking people organized and uni-fied by the common goal of constructive and positive de-velopment of the society. We have spread nationally as well as internationally with active members coming and working with us, not only from across India but from across the globe
