The project “Mulberry Silk Cluster Development”, supported by NEDFI, has made a promising and fruitful start.

We reached out to around 1000 individuals connected to the fading practice of sericulture, out of which 200 farmers were selected for focused support. Through motivational trainings and scientific guidance, they were introduced to improved methods of mulberry rearing.

To enhance their practice, we provided traditional rearing tools like dola and chandrika, along with disease-free high quality DFLs.

The journey has just begun, but the results are encouraging.
With continued efforts, we hope to revive this rich, yet declining tradition of sericulture and bring it back to life for future generations. 🌱

A few months ago, we organized a waste audit activity where youth came together to collect and categorize waste in their local areas. This helped us understand what kind of waste is most common — and more importantly, made people see the problem for themselves.

The first activity took place in a local marketplace, where even shopkeepers became part of the conversation. Slowly, awareness turned into action — people started taking responsibility and keeping their surroundings clean.

The waste audit continued in multiple phases across different locations, spreading awareness within the community.

And the result?
After 3 months, a follow-up visit showed a visible transformation — the area was significantly cleaner.

For the past year, a team from SATRA has been working closely with communities around local fishing ponds — guiding and supporting fishers with scientific, sustainable techniques of fish production.

The focus has been on improving knowledge about fish nutrition, pond management, and responsible practices, showing how fisheries can become a reliable source of livelihood for local people.

Beyond income, this approach also helps maintain clean and healthy ponds and supports aquatic biodiversity, by avoiding over-exploitation and promoting balance in nature.

Community Health & Wellness Camp | 08-03-2026 🌿

A Community Health and Wellness Camp was organized at Longeh Lobui, Chingthong in collaboration with KLIRDAP NGO.

We were honored to have Dr. Jirsong Rongchehon (Medical Officer) and Mr. Amos Ronghang (Project Officer) as our resource persons.

Along with the health camp, important awareness sessions were conducted on:
👉 Child Marriage – highlighting its serious consequences
👉 Drug Addiction – addressing the rising concern in the region

Dr. Jirsong also shared valuable information on the importance of the Ayushman Card, followed by free health check-ups and medicine distribution.

Around 40–45 community members actively participated in the programme, making it a meaningful and impactful initiative.

A large section of India’s population falls under the BPL (Below Poverty Line) category, facing both economic and social challenges. While the government has introduced several schemes and initiatives for their support, lack of awareness and misinformation often prevent many eligible individuals from accessing these benefits.

To address this gap, the SATRA team took the initiative to conduct a survey to identify such beneficiaries who are still missing out on these schemes despite being eligible.

This effort aims to ensure that the right support reaches the right people — because awareness is the first step toward empowerment. 🌿

According to WHO’s Depression Fact Sheet, depression is about 1.5 times more common among women than men worldwide. This makes it even more important to spread mental health awareness among rural women, who often face social pressure, limited support, and long-standing gender inequalities.

Creating safe spaces for conversation, understanding their struggles, and supporting their well being is a crucial step toward a healthier and more empowered community. 🌿
