The KAPS District Chapter, Malappuram, in association with the Department of Social Work, MSTM Arts and Science College, Pooppalam, Perinthalmanna, jointly organized a programme in connection with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty at the Seminar Hall of MSTM College, Perinthalmanna, today.
The programme was inaugurated by Sri. Haskar, Senior Professional Social Worker and District Programme Manager, Kudumbashree Mission, Malappuram. In his inaugural address, he highlighted that the theme of the day — “Ending Social and Institutional Maltreatment: Ensuring Respect and Effective Support for Families Living in Poverty” — had been recognised and addressed by Kudumbashree Mission since its inception 27 years ago. He further stated that Kudumbashree, a flagship initiative of the Government of Kerala for poverty eradication, has been implementing major interventions such as Ashraya – Destitute-Free Kerala and the Extreme Poverty Eradication Programme in collaboration with local self-government institutions.
Muhammed Shajahan, Principal (in charge) of the college, presided over the inaugural function. Babu M. T., District Probation Officer, Idukki and Governing Board Member of KAPS, delivered the keynote address.
Following the inaugural function, a panel discussion on “Programmes for Addressing Poverty and the Role of Professional Social Workers” was held. The session was moderated by Muhammad Swalih P., Faculty, Department of Social Work, SSUS Regional Centre, Tirur. The panelists included Subairul Avan P. K., Manager, National Urban Livelihood Mission; Faisalu Rahiman K. M., Higher Secondary School Teacher (Social Work); and Sabeer V., Project Coordinator, INFACC.
The programme was facilitated by Muhammed Shafi, Faculty Member, Department of Social Work, SNDP College, and Drishya, Faculty, Department of Social Work, MSTM Arts and Science College, Perinthalmanna.
Ashlin Joe Antony, Head of the Department of Social Work, MSTM College, delivered the welcome address, and Shahala Sherin M. T. proposed the vote of thanks. Social Work Students from MSTM College and nearby College participated.
