A proud moment for Indian Maize Research!

Hon’ble Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the new Administrative-cum-Lab Building at ICAR–IIMR, Ludhiana, in the presence of key dignitaries and over 1000 maize stakeholders from across India.

ICAR–Indian Institute of Maize Research (ICAR–IIMR) present at India Bio-Energy & Tech Expo, Yashobhoomi, IICC, New Delhi, held today.

On this occasion, Dr. SL Jat, Senior Scientist said, “India is expected to harvest around 50 million tonnes of maize this year, driven by rising demand from the ethanol, feed, and food industries, and large-scale adoption of improved hybrids and scientific cultivation practices.”

The integrated approach of research, industry collaboration, and farmer empowerment provides a scalable model for nationwide maize cultivation.

By narrowing the yield gap, India can enhance farmer incomes, strengthen food and feed supply, and develop a robust maize-based industrial ecosystem supporting ethanol and other value-added industries in India.
