At “Beyond Right & Wrong – Youth Leadership is Changing the Game,” collaboratively organised by Bewajah Samiti, ComMutiny - The Youth Collective, and the vartaLeap Coalition, our Global Shapers Lucknow Hub members didn’t just attend an event, we stepped into a conversation that truly mattered.
The day opened with a powerful children’s theatre presentation, a story of a king who hides his “difference” out of fear, only to discover that what he considers a weakness is actually his greatest strength. It set the tone beautifully: leadership is not born by hiding fear, but by acknowledging it and transforming it through dialogue.
Together, young people and professionals, educators, researchers, parents, and institutional leaders, including voices connected with UNICEF and former leadership from NCERT, sat across from each other and asked simple yet uncomfortable questions:
What do we truly expect from one another?
What do young people need from educators and institutions?
And what do educators hope to see from today’s youth?
It wasn’t a lecture. It was an exchange.
An honest, two-way dialogue about responsibility, trust, wellbeing, confidence, collaboration, and the safe spaces we want to build together.
Through structured conversations, we moved beyond debate and began shaping a shared Charter of Demands, collective commitments to support youth leadership meaningfully. Leaders actively creating enabling spaces for young people were also recognised, reminding us that change is already in motion.
Conversations continued over lunch. Reflections deepened over tea. And we closed the day with photographs, but more importantly, with perspective.
When we move beyond “right” and “wrong” and truly listen, leadership flourishes.
And when society chooses to hear its young people, we move closer to building a more empathetic and participatory future.
