An evening to remember! Many thanks to sahib for hosting this event to celebrate the automotive and culinary heritage of Mahmudabad. In particular deep thanks to Mr Titus for all the painstaking effort and love he has put into restoring the Minerva type AL which remains one of the wonders of the automotive world with less than a dozen in existence today. spoke at length about anecdotes about the cars and food from Mahmudabad and was especially pleased to see the beautiful souvenir that was produced for the occasion.

Wonderful to have Chef back at House for a private luncheon. A couple of dishes (the Shami Kebab and Arvi ka saalan- ghuiyan gosht) were cooked by the lady cooks in house and so it was a truly special collaboration.

Also very pleased to showcase our table runner with “Jali” work by the ladies of and table mats inspired by Mughal paintings (photo 8).

In the 1950s, the former Iranian Ambassador to India Aghaye Ali-Asghar Hikmat-e Shirazi (1892-1980) once recited the following couplet to the late Raja of Mahmudabad (1914-1973) while driving to the Qila and passing through villages which had houses made of mud.

Why go to the house of clay, come, come to the Ka’aba of the heart
Recognise the path and your goal,
pay heed to where you are

تو مرو بہ خانہ گل تو بیا بہ کعبہ دل
بشناس راہ و منزل بنگر کہ خود کھائی

१९५० के दहे में ईरानी राजदूत राजा साहिब महमूदाबाद के साथ महमूदाबाद गाड़ी से आ रहे थे। रास्ते में उन्होंने मट्टी के घर देखे तो उन्होंने एक शेर पढ़ा:
