In Vedic astrology as per Vaishnava Siddhanta Kurmadeva is worshipped to pacify the malefic influence of Saturn... Let us understand the reason behind... Kurma purana, Brahmanda, Vishnu Purana, Agni Purana also talks elaborately about Kurma Deva....
*ओं नमो भगवते कुर्माय*
Lord Vishnu asked Indra to churn the ocean for the nectar of immortality - and thus said "You need to drink the nectar which is the only way for you to become strong again and escape the curse of sage Durvasa and fight against the Asuras". For this, he needed the help of Asuras. Indra followed the advice of Lord Vishnu and convinced the Asuras to help.
Both the Devas and the Asuras were engaged in the task of churning the ocean and obtaining nectar. But unfortunately, Mandara mountain started sinking. Lord Vishnu incarnated as Kurma Avatar and provided support for Mount Mandara by acting as a base.
Kurma Avatar signifies stability which is an important aspect of Shani and it is the quality of Shani to remain steady despite temporary setbacks.. The tortoise remains content and at peace on its journey. This quality of detachment is very much associated with Saturn.. We face Shani's harsh lessons until we learn detachment and turn inward...Wherever you are, being comfortable and feeling contented is something we learn from Shani.
Lord Vishnu in the form of a tortoise carried the entire mandara on his back during the "churning of the ocean". Because of their longevity, sturdiness, and wrinkled appearance, they are a symbol of longevity and stability in many cultures. Saturn is the significator of longevity in astrology. A native having a healthy Saturn in his 8th house lives more than 80 yrs.. Saturn is also a slow-moving planet ( शनैः चरति इति शनिः ) hence is associated with all kinds of delays. On the contrary a well placed Saturn expedite everything... There is only one temple of Kurmadeva in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, India.....🙏
