It’s really hard to stay online and post stuff when it’s not exactly my forte (doomscrolling excluded). 10th year of running Alekhya, and the “followers” are still quite less. However, there are some deep friendships, priceless memories and most importantly, books, that have come out of this retreat. That for me, is the real capital we’ve gained. June — 2026 retreat has begun and brought with it hope, that there is still a corner for raw, untouched spaces that aren’t overly aestheticized and exist to disconnect you from an overly connected world.

We’re back this summer with a structured retreat, from June 3-7, 2026. Whether you’re an aspiring writer looking to get started, or an experienced one working on your draft, we have writing masterclasses and focused time with mentors for you. Led by Ushinor and Shalvi, this summer’s retreat include workshops on fiction, creative non-fiction, plot development, character building, editing, and an introduction to Indian publishing. We’ll also be running peer review sessions throughout the week.

We’re also excited to run this retreat in collaboration with TLC, Shalvi’s brainchild. A literary community based both online and in person in Ahmedabad, TLC organizes fun events and pop ups for bookish folks.

We’ve been hosting writers since 2017. This summer, we go further.

Announcing the inaugural Jagtawali Sood Emerging Writers’ Residency — a month-long stay in the Himalayas for four writers, from June 1–30, 2026.

This residency is a tribute to one of our seminal literacy influences, Jagtawali Sood. She was a scholar, poet, and teacher whose work circled the lives of women with quiet precision. This project is extremely personal to us.

Alekhya began as a writing retreat in Himachal — a place to step away from noise and stay with the page a little longer.

Aalekh, our virtual writing circle is an extension of that idea. A quiet, structured space that shows up twice a month, so you can show up too.

You can bring draft, an outline, or just a vague thread you’re chasing. That, and the willingness to sit with it for a focused block of time.

You can expect silent writing sessions with gentle, specific feedback from other writers. We plan to do this twice a month.
