PFA, Kollam works via different avenues to improve conditions for local animals. Important Activities
👉Animal Birth Control (ABC) initiative
👉Encourage to Adopt an Indie through organised Adoption drives.
👉Rescue, Care and Treatment of injured dogs
👉Lifelong care of handicapped dogs.
👉Awareness programmes on animals in schools.
👉Free veterinary camps in villages.
👉Free rabies vaccination drives. Built through grants, fund raising and donations, PFA Kollam's shelter is located at Thazhuthala, Kollam. It houses, treats and feeds 100+ animals a month in 23 kennels (puppies, multiple occupancy). The shelter includes an Animal Hospital with operation theatre and in-patient facilities. We have recurring expenditure for a Veterinarian, Animal Handler, Cook, Ambulance Driver, cleaning materials, medicines, vaccines, electricity and water charges, diesel and back-up propane gas, meals for dogs and puppies. Funding for activities:
PFA is registered as a Charitable Trust. The current infrastructure was built using the partial monetary help provided by Animal Welfare Board initially and the fund raising activities initiated by the PFA, Kollam members. A few members generously donate personal funds to help carry on the day to day activities and improve infra structure. But now we are struggling to meet the high expenses involved in running the shelter. We have more dogs than our kennels can hold. We are not able to release any dogs in the shelter back to their home environments, because some of them who came to us as puppies are now not equipped to survive outside. We are also struggling to continue with our vaccination and sterilisation camps. Donate: PFA, Kollam Chapter is grateful for any donation to help with our activities. We have been granted FCRA registration to enable us to receive foreign donations. Donations in Indian Rupees are tax-exempt.
