Dakshini Prayash

A Non-Profit promoting Education + Health + Self Reliance to the Madurdaha community in West Bengal.

Dakshini Prayash has been a registered society since 1994 and now has facilities that include a comprehensive primary and secondary school. The society provides sewing classes, manual looms, sewing machines and a platform to sell manufactured products to help the women of Madurdaha to be self-reliant. Health care services are also provided, with weekly health clinics, free regular check-ups, provision of medicine, eyeglasses and a nutritious midday meal to all the students. The society has grown rapidly over the years and wants to continuously expand its reach and involve as many programme participants and volunteers as possible. Nalini Mukerji, the Founder of Dakshini Prayash used to go on morning walks through the settlement of Madurdaha on the outskirts of Calcutta, India. The village children would follow her and laugh at the greying lady wearing a salwar kameez and sneakers. Nalini took the banter in her stride and slowly built a relationship with the children who later became her students. Sitting under the shade of a tree, she would teach them how to read and write in Bengali and English. A small act of compassion turned into a full-fledged effort to alleviate the condition of the largely uneducated daily-wage workers and their families living in Madurdaha.

A Proud Moment for Madurdaha Satyavritti Vidyalaya!

Our students Rai and Tanushree, from class VII secured 3rd position among 17 schools in the preliminary round of SPARK – Teach For India Kolkata Inter-School Quiz! They are now among just 8 schools heading to the Finals at Science City on 26 September.

At Dakshini Prayash, we believe holistic education goes beyond textbooks. Opportunities like these give children from underserved communities the exposure to participate, compete, discover their potential and grow in confidence.

A big thanks to Teach For India for providing such platforms where children get the opportunity to learn, participate, challenge themselves and shine.

You can help create more such opportunities.

Donate. Volunteer. Share our work. Every act of support helps us give children the education, exposure and experiences they need to learn, grow and dream bigger.

Join us in making holistic education accessible to every child.

At Madurdaha Satyavritti Vidyalaya – a unit of Dakshini Prayash, we believe holistic education is not only about what children learn, but also about giving them the freedom to imagine, explore and express themselves.

Our Class III and IV students recently took part in a simple yet delightful activity — combining drawings with the Bengali names of the objects themselves. A fish, bird, boat, butterfly and more emerged as children played with the shapes of letters and turned words into pictures. ✏️🎨

Activities like these encourage children to observe, think differently, experiment with ideas and connect language with visual imagination. There is no single “right” way to create — and that is precisely where the learning happens.

At Dakshini Prayash, we want technology to expand possibilities while ensuring that curiosity and creativity remain at the heart of childhood. 🌱

Because holistic education is about nurturing not just good students, but curious thinkers, confident creators and imaginative minds.

Healthy Smiles, Healthy Futures!

At Dakshini Prayash, health and well-being are an integral part of holistic education.

An Oral Hygiene Awareness and Dental Check-up Camp was organized by Techno India University, West Bengal at Madurdaha Satyavritti Vidyalaya. 178 children from Nursery to Class IV received dental check-ups, while learning the importance of good oral hygiene and healthy habits.

Our heartfelt thanks to Techno India and the doctors for supporting our children’s health and well-being.

Support us in bringing more health camps and preventive care initiatives to the children and families of Madurdaha. Together, we can build a healthier community.

Happy Teachers’ Day from Dakshini Prayash!

Behind every confident child is a teacher who believed, encouraged, guided and cared.

This Teachers’ Day, we celebrate the wonderful teachers of Madurdaha Satyavritti Vidyalaya – a unit of Dakshini Prayash, whose dedication goes far beyond the classroom.

Every day, they help our children learn, explore, express themselves, build confidence and dream bigger. Their commitment is at the heart of our endeavour to provide holistic education and create meaningful opportunities for every child.

The celebration became even more special as our children came together to say a heartfelt “Thank You for Teaching Us” to the people who guide them every day. 🌼

To all our teachers — thank you for your patience, compassion and unwavering dedication. You inspire. You empower. You make a difference.

Happy Teachers’ Day! 💐

At Dakshini Prayash, we believe that education goes far beyond textbooks and classrooms. 🌱

Sports and physical activities are an integral part of the holistic education we strive to provide to the children of Madurdaha. Through regular opportunities in football, cricket, table tennis, self-defence, running and other physical activities, our children learn much more than a sport — they build confidence, discipline, resilience, teamwork and the courage to challenge themselves.

This gives them a safe space to discover their strengths, develop new skills and experience opportunities that might otherwise remain beyond their reach.

Every child deserves the chance not just to study, but to play, learn, explore, compete and dream. 💙

At Dakshini Prayash, this is what holistic education means to us — nurturing the mind, body and spirit so that every child has the opportunity to realise their potential.

You can help us keep these opportunities alive. Support the cost of education of 1 child for 3 months at Rs.5,250.

🙏 Support holistic education for the children of Madurdaha. Your donation can help us provide education, sports and enriching experiences that allow every child to learn, grow and dream beyond their circumstances.

Donate today and be a part of their journey. DM us or contact @99202 09735/98105 65953 or drop a mail at [email protected]/ [email protected] to know more about us!
