The Central Library, located in the Third floor of the college building, holds 17833 books (as on 1.1.2023) a resourceful collection comprising of latest syllabus and relevant books. Inside the stack room, the books are arranged according to Dewey Decimal Classification scheme. Proper stack guides and bay guides have been provided so that the user does not feel lost amidst many books on various su
bjects. Within the library, there is a ‘Periodicals Section’, where magazines and periodicals are displayed and New Arrivals Section to display newly purchased books to catch the attention of the library users. There are separate sections for Circulation, Book Processing, Teacher’s Reading and e-Library. There is a baggage counter for keeping personal belongings outside the library. The AC Reading area provides a perfect ambience for self-study. The library was computerized by using a local Library Management Software developed by our ex-professor Dr. Santanu Laha, Associate Professor, Department of Physics. The entire library collection was entered into the database in 2015 and computerized circulation started. A standard library management software (KOHA) version 3.22 was introduced in 2017 for the betterment of the library services. Recently the software has been upgraded to Version 23.05.05 and the same has been cloud hosted in 2021. Barcoding of the library books was done completely in March,2021. Computerised circulation services through KOHA were introduced from the session 2021-22. Members are issued two library cards one for borrowing books and another for internet/ reading card. Library Clearance through KOHA is given at the end of the semester-VI exam. Daily circulation statistics reports are generated from Koha. Library is enabled with LAN, Internet connectivity and Wi-Fi system. RFID based library services have been introduced in February,2024 for the betterment of library services. The college is a member of the N-LIST programme since 2014 to provide access to e-journals and e-books. Apart from it, link of open access e- books, e-journals and other resources are listed and given in Library WEB-OPAC which is visible through College website for the proper use of library resources. Library follows Open Access System. Stock verification of central and seminar libraries are done regularly. Our library also provides reprographic service for benefit of students at subsidized rates. Presently, Web-OPAC services are available which allows members to search library catalogue beyond college campus at anytime, anywhere. The library provides career-oriented study materials and showcases special collection on and by Rabindranath Tagore. Library Orientation programme are conducted regularly to guide the users properly so that the right book reaches the right user at the right time. The Library Sub-committee acts as an advisory body and helps in decision making regarding collection development and quality enhancement of library services. The library staffs are always available at the circulation desk. They carry on their duties with dedication to provide better services to members.
