We are indeed disheartened and disgusted to know of the shameful incident that have occurred in Dumka in Jharkhand. A Spanish husband and his Brazilian wife had been on a world ride for the last many years on their bikes, and after touring 63 countries and covering 1.6 lakh kms, they had entered India from Pakistan in July 2023 and had been to Leh-Ladakh, Shimla, Agra and Kanyakumari. All hell broke loose when on the way to Nepal, they decided to halt for the night in a tent in Dumka in Jharkhand. The man was assaulted and the lady was gangraped by seven men. As per the latest news, all the seven have been identified, 4 has been arrested and the rest 3 are absconding, and the lady is undergoing treatment in a hospital.
We, as a group of riders, condemn this heinous act of crime in the strongest possible words, and would like to appeal to the judiciary to grant maximum punishment to the accused. Our heads hang in shame.
We would also like to advise all our brave riders to maintain maximum safety and security while on a ride, to be extra careful about the night halts when we will be having any women members riding with us.
