° voices will be present at the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA79) in 📍Geneva, Switzerland | May 18–23, 2026, active contributing to discussions and helping ensure that the perspectives and lived realities of people living with diabetes are part of the conversations shaping global health priorities.

From health equity and noncommunicable diseases to prevention, access, innovation, and sustainable healthcare systems, the decisions made at WHA79 can impact millions of lives worldwide. 🌎

That’s why patient voices matter. Because meaningful healthcare decisions cannot happen without the people directly affected.

A message for ° voices and the diabetes community

As many of you are aware, Bastian Hauck, diabetes advocate, founder and CEO of Dedoc Diabetes Online Community, has been unwell for some time now. Bastian has lived with terminal cancer since 2021. After countless treatments and surgeries, he stopped all curative therapies earlier this year.

Bastian’s advocacy and activism have changed the diabetes community. With °, he created spaces for people living with diabetes to connect authentically, share their lived experience and shape the conversations that affect our lives. From its first °, held in the crowded back room of a small Stockholm cafe, to regular symposia at international conferences, he elevated the voice of people with diabetes in places where we often struggle to have a seat at the table. Today, it is almost impossible to find a corner of the diabetes world that hasn’t been touched by Bastian’s work. It is a tribute to the initiatives he started and encouraged others to grow that they will continue to influence and inspire long into the future.

Bastian raised millions to build the world’s largest scholarship program of its kind, granting hundreds of ° voices access to professional diabetes conferences. This access was given on our own terms, and specifically offered advocates from low and middle income countries fully supported opportunities to participate and contribute on equal footing. For more than a decade, ° provided a platform for diabetes advocates to meet and collaborate with peers, HCPs, researchers and industry. ° spearheaded the paradigm shift of the diabetes ecosystem, ensuring lived experience informs scientific discussions and decisions on diabetes research, policy and care worldwide:

The future of ° is currently under review. Governance, operations and leadership must be sorted out, and the ° voices scholarship program will continue to require sustainable funding. For now, we are taking time to reflect, consult and explore the best path forward – together, as a team and with the community. We thank all partners, sponsors and friends of ° for their continued support and patience in this challenging time.

Bastian is grateful for the many messages he is receiving, but may be unable to respond to everyone individually at this stage. We understand that people may want to share their thoughts and memories about Bastian’s impact and what ° has meant to them, and we encourage that you do so wherever you see this message. Also, please share this message with anyone who may have concrete ideas on how to support ° and the ° voices scholarship program moving forward.

Bastian is currently at home, enjoying the sunshine and spending time with family and his beloved and very spoilt pup, ° Cuba. He will continue to show up for ° and our community as long as he can, true to his principle:

The End Diabetes Stigma Global Summit in Jaipur was more than an event. It felt like a glimpse of what becomes possible when lived experience is not pushed to the margins, but placed at the centre.

Over two powerful days in Jaipur on 28-29 March 2026, the Summit brought together advocates, researchers, clinicians, organisations, and people living with diabetes from around the world to connect, learn, and help shape a global roadmap to end diabetes stigma. The program was built for action, with discussions on stigma in healthcare, language, community-based solutions, communications, human rights, and next steps for collective change.

One of the most meaningful parts for us was helping bring 85 people to Jaipur through our travel grant. Some of them were already voices, and for others, this felt like the beginning of something. We truly hope this was only the start and that we’ll see many of them become future voices.

Seeing so many people with lived experience in one room was deeply empowering. As leaders, storytellers, experts, and changemakers. That is exactly the kind of space that creates momentum, and this Summit was designed to do just that: bring people together to co-create practical actions and a global roadmap to end diabetes stigma.

If you were there, thank you for your honesty, your energy and thank you for showing up! 🌻

If you were not, you can still be part of this movement.Take the pledge to help end diabetes stigma and discrimination here: enddiabetesstigma.org/take-the-pledge

Thank you for Adding Your Name!

At the End Diabetes Stigma Global Summit in Jaipur, delegates from around the world came together to challenge stigma, share lived experiences, and push for change. We did everything we could to make sure those advocates were truly represented.

Through our ° travel grant, we brought 85 people with lived experience from across the globe into the room because change starts when the right voices are heard.

And for everyone who couldn’t be there in person… we found another way.

Through our Add Your Name movement, your names became part of something real. Our Artist in Residence, transformed them into a street art piece in Jaipur a powerful symbol of every story, every voice, every person standing up against stigma.

This wall carries more than art.
It carries you.

What happens when cutting-edge diabetes innovation exists… but isn’t accessible to everyone?

In her new blog post, Sheila de Vasconcellos shares her journey through ATTD 2025, highlighting the realities of living with type 1 diabetes in a developing country, the power of peer support, and why access must be part of the innovation conversation.

This is more than a congress recap, it’s a call for equity.
