आज मोर भारत का राष्ट्रीय पक्षी है, सर्वोच्च संरक्षण प्राप्त है। फिर भी 2024 में पुणे में 500 किलो मोरपंख पकड़े गए। कर्नाटक में दर्जनों मोर pesticide से मारे गए — सिर्फ़ पंख के लिए।
कोई audit नहीं। कोई certification नहीं। कोई chain of custody नहीं।
एक जैन Forest Officer — श्री S.M. जैन — ने अपने ही समाज से पूछा: जब श्वेताम्बर साधु कपास से अहिंसा निभा रहे हैं — तो दिगम्बरों के लिए मोरपंख पर ज़ोर क्यों?

हर मंच से करुणा, अहिंसा, गौ-सेवा का सन्देश। पर commercial dairy पर एक भी शब्द नहीं।
आप कहते हैं — गाय हमारी माँ है। बछड़े का हिस्सा छोड़ो। मांसाहार अधर्म है।
पर आज की dairy — जन्म के कुछ घंटों में माँ-बच्चे को अलग करती है। लाखों नर बछड़े कहाँ जाते हैं? हमारे अनुमान से, हर साल 8 करोड़ गोवंश मारे जाते हैं।

क्या गौशाला दूध की क्रूरता का हल है? या सिर्फ़ हमारे ज़मीर का बहाना?
50 लाख बेसहारा गोवंश आज भी सड़कों पर हैं — करोड़ों रुपये गौशालाओं पर खर्च होने के बावजूद। क्योंकि गौशाला डेयरी की समस्या का हल नहीं — उसका overflowing dustbin है।
500 साल पहले यूरोप में लोग पैसे देकर "पाप-मुक्ति" की रसीद खरीदते थे। आज हम भी यही करते हैं — गौशाला को दान, मन हल्का, और फिर वही दूध, घी, मिठाई।
हमारे अनुमान से, हर साल लगभग 13 करोड़ गोवंश डेयरी के लिए जबरन पैदा किए जाते हैं — और इतने ही मरते हैं।
गौशाला बुरी नहीं — पर दान देना डेयरी की समस्या का हल नहीं। असली हल एक ही है: दूध की माँग रोकना।
गौशालाओं की सच्ची सेवा का हम पूरा सम्मान करते हैं। हमारा सवाल system पर है — व्यक्तियों पर नहीं।

Are Gaushalas the solution to dairy cruelty, or just a way to ease our conscience?
More than 5 million stray cattle still roam India's streets today, despite crores of rupees being spent on gaushalas. That's because gaushalas are not a solution to the dairy problem — they are often an overflowing dustbin for its consequences.
Five hundred years ago, people in Europe could buy certificates that supposedly freed them from their sins. Today, many of us do something similar: donate to a gaushala, feel relieved, and then return to consuming the same milk, ghee, sweets, and dairy products that keep the cycle going.
According to our estimates, around 13 crore bovines are bred into the dairy system every year — and a similar number die as a consequence of that cycle.
Gaushalas are not the enemy, and we deeply respect those who genuinely care for abandoned animals. Our question is not about individuals; it is about the system.
If we truly want to reduce suffering, we must look beyond managing the consequences and start addressing the cause. The real solution begins where the demand begins.
