Krishna was born at midnight, in a prison, under a sky of storm and flood. Not in comfort. Not in freedom.
That's the point.
The Atman — our real Self — is often called "dark" not because it is hidden from the world, but because it stays unknown to us as long as we're absorbed in the noise of body, mind, and sense. Janmashtami doesn't only mark a birth in time; it marks the possibility of a birth in us — the moment the "prison doors" of ego and limitation fling open, and what is truly infinite in us stands revealed, unconfined by circumstance.
Every Janmashtami we celebrate a child born in bo***ge who could not be bound. The invitation is the same for us: whatever confines you today — habit, fear, restriction — is not final. The Self within is ever free.
May this Janmashtami awaken the Krishna within.
