To resolve various issues related to app-cab services, Transport Minister Arjun Singh held a meeting on Tuesday evening at the Maidan tent of the Transport Department with representatives of several business organizations and driver associations associated with the service. Apart from representatives of all app-cab companies in the city, officials of the organization responsible for CNG supply in the state were also present.
Representatives of driver associations raised the issue of problems with CNG supply in maintaining smooth service. The Transport Minister instructed the organization in charge of gas supply to quickly resolve the problem. He virtually warned that if they fail to resolve the problem, the responsibility of gas supply will be given to another organization.
The issue of app-cab fares was also raised in the discussion. It was alleged that as the per-kilometer fare rate is not fixed, multiple companies are providing services at arbitrarily low costs to attract passengers. According to sources, the minister has assured that all fare-related issues will be resolved after Puja. He also said that he will take a strict stand on the question of stopping the use of private vehicles in bike-taxi and app-cab services.
Indranil Bandyopadhyay, General Secretary of the Online Cab Operators Guild, said, *“A positive discussion has taken place with all parties. We are hopeful that the problems will be resolved.”*
