Laxman Public School Sets a Lifesaving Example

On July 1, 2025, Laxman Public School, Hauz Khas Enclave, New Delhi, took a significant step towards health and safety by organizing a CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) training for 125 teachers. The session was led by the schoolโ€™s Principal Seema Bharti Mishra and conducted by Seema Bhatnagar Director of Abhyeti Foundation and certified BLS Trainer from the Resuscitation Council, London, UK.

The teachers showed great enthusiasm to learn this essential skill, gaining the ability to respond quickly and confidently to medical emergenciesโ€”whether in school, at home, or in public. After an interactive session with demonstrations and hands-on practice, a short quiz was held to reinforce their learning.

In recognition of this vital initiative, the school was awarded a โ€˜Safety Firstโ€™ Certificate for equipping its staff with lifesaving capabilities.

We thank Laxman Public School and school Counsellor Dimple Vij joining hands with Abhyeti Foundation in this mission. Special thanks to Abha Goyal and Rita Das for their dedicated support in organizing the event.

We encourage other school leaders to arrange CPR and BLS training for their staff and students. In case you are interested, please contact us at:

Meet Maria (name changed) from Iran. I was returning from Starbucks counter in London after collecting my order when Maria gestured me to come and sit with her & share the table. The warmth of her smile convinced me and I sat with her.

Maria did not know any of the languages that I know and vice a versa. For few seconds we were wondering how to communicate.

Then she opened gallery of her mobile after some difficulty and showed me few photographs and videos. Her spoken words were in probably some Iranian language but facial expressions broke the barriers of not knowing each other's language.

Maria had 4 children. 1 elder son died in Iran war. She and her 2 daughters are asylum seekers in UK. Her one son is still in Iran, a chef by profession.

Feeling her pain of totally disturbed household, I understood I have to just hold her hand and listen to her. And I did it for 45 minutes.

When we got up to leave, she blessed my granddaughters and said 'Mashaallah' and this was the only word we both knew.

Reflecting upon the pain Maria is going through, my own respect for our defense services has multiplied manifolds.

At least from India no one has to seek asylum elsewhere unless of gourmet if he has done something wrong.

Let us value, respect and persevere to keep this Independence that we have inherited from our seniors.
