For far too long, much of the world has tried to understand happiness and wellbeing through lenses that were not always born out of Indian realities.
And that is exactly why this moment feels important.
If India must study wellbeing seriously, shape policy meaningfully, and build healthier institutions for the future, then India must also help build the frameworks through which wellbeing is understood, measured and taught.
We are proud to share that Atmik Happitude Foundation has formally signed an MoU with Era University, Lucknow to work together on an ambitious and pathbreaking mission:
to contribute towards the development of an Indian-contextualised happiness and wellbeing measurement scale based on Atmik Happitude Foundation's proprietary Happitude Quotient™️ framework.
For years, much of happiness and well-being research in India has had to lean on scales and constructs developed largely in Western contexts. Many of them are valuable. But many may not fully capture the emotional, social, cultural and lived realities of Indian life.
That is why the effort to build an Indian-contextualised scale is both visionary and necessary.
Alongside this, we are also excited to collaborate with Era University’s Department of Happiness on a formal academic course in the domain of happiness and well-being.
Because happiness cannot remain a motivational slogan.
It must enter classrooms.
It must enter research.
It must enter institutions.
A mission like this requires vision, seriousness and the willingness to invest in questions that are deeply human, yet often underexplored in formal systems.
We deeply value the thought leadership and conviction of our leaders Prof. (Dr.) Abbas Ali Mahdi, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Era University, and Mr. Alok Ranjan IAS, Hon’ble Chairman, Atmik Happitude Foundation and Former Chief Secretary (Retd.) Govt. of Uttar Pradesh, for their vision in embracing a journey that is ambitious, challenging and, we believe, deeply relevant to the future.
Because behind every scale, every course, every framework and every conversation, there is a very human truth:
People everywhere are not just trying to succeed.
They are trying to feel better. Live better. Relate better. Become better.
We would also like to acknowledge the contribution of Prof. Meeta Ghosh, Head of Dept., Department of Happiness, Era University, Dr. Syeda Saleha Jafri - Asst. Professor at Era University, Prof. Shazia Fatima - Asst. Professor at Era University, and Mr. Saurabh Lall - Director, Atmik Happitude Foundation, for their role in shaping this association and carrying its vision forward.
We look forward to this journey with hope, humility and commitment.
If you are a researcher, academic institution, practitioner, policymaker or professional working in this space and would like to collaborate on this larger mission, we would love to hear from you.
