ブッダガヤでは、多くの児童が学校に通えないという現実があります。原因はひとことで言えば貧困。ただそこには親の無知という問題もあります。農家にとって子供は貴重な働き手です。多くの親は、子供を学校に通わせることよりも、日々の生活を支えるため、農業の手伝いをさせることを選択します。そのことで、子供たちは、基本的な読み、書き、計算の練習をする機会を逃してしまいます。大人になり、農作物を販売する際にも、正当な契約をすることがでず、この貧困のスパイラルから抜け出すことができないまま、また次の世代へと同じことが繰り返されていくのです。
In Buddha Gaya, there are a lot of children who cannot go to school and missing the opportunity to receive a foundational
education. The ignorance of the parents about the needs of basic education is also the cause of this issue. For the farmers, even a small child is a really important work force in their field. Many parents make their children work on the field in order to support a daily life. In that way, children are missing the opportunity learn how to read, write and how to calculate. The ones who are not be able to receive the foundamental education are facing troubles when they are grown and try to sell crops in the market. In that way, it is so hard to get out of the spiral of poverty by them.
この状況を打開すべく、私たちは、近隣の農村を回り、一人でも多くの子供を、少しでも多くの時間学校に通わせてもらえるよう、一軒ずつ親を説得して回っています。こうすることで、子供たちは、農業を手伝いながらも、学校に来て教育を受けることができます。学校では、基本的な教育はもとより、英語、ヨガ等、将来、子供たちの職業選択の幅を少しでも広げることができるようなカリキュラムにしています。毎日作りたての昼食を生徒全員に提供しています。確実に1日1食は栄養が十分に摂れる食事を確保しています。
To get rid of this situation, we are visiting villages around school frequently to convince all the patents to send children to school. In this way, many children can start coming to school although they still have to work on the field. In our school, we teach not only all the basic subjects but also English and Yoga to widen children’s choice for future carrier. Furthermore, lunch is provided to students every day. One meal per day has secured for those children and it makes them fully nutritious for growing up healthy.
わたしたちは、孤児院の運営も行っています。生まれて間もない子供の救済活動を行っています。インドの農村では、いまだに、女児は結婚の際、ダウリーと呼ばれる持参金を用意する文化があり、その持参金は農家にとってはかなりの負担です。そのため、特に女児は生まれてすぐに捨てられてしまうケースが後を絶ちません。子供が多い家庭では、男児であっても、養っていけないとの理由から捨てられるケースがあります。私たちは、子供の救済と合わせて、親の教育にも取り組んでいます。子供たちを救うためには、親の理解と協力が不可欠だと信じているからです。
Moreover, the relief activities of the new born children are performed through management of an orphanage. In the villages in India, there still is the culture of dowry at the time of marriage. This system is a remarkable pressure for farmers. Therefore, girls are easily thrown away immediately after the birth and it does not serve the back. Even the boys have to experience the same if the family is already too big to feed all the family members. We are also trying to educate parents on family planning and importance of education through our projects. Because we believe parents’ support and understandings about education is mandate for saving children.
中学生以上の女子生徒には、希望者に対し、自立支援として、縫い物を教えています。そうすることで、家庭内暴力や奴隷のような生活から解放される機会になればと願ってやみません。
これらの活動は、どれも切り離せない活動として、現在のプレマメッタの4つの基本的な
活動となっています。
Sewing is taught to the elder student whom at the age around junior high school as independence support. We are hoping this teaching provide them a chance to get out of the slavery situation or DV at home. These activities are four fundamental activities of the present PremaMetta and we believe these are inseparable to achieve our goal.
そのほかに、チャイルドスポンサーの募集、古着収集、寄付金募集、グッズの販売などを行っています。
Besides four main activities, we are also working on finding childe sponsors, collecting used clothes, raising donation, and selling hand made products of the children, etc.
これらプレマメッタの活動は、すべてボランティアによって支えられています。
All those PremaMetta activities are fully supported by the non-paid volunteers.
