💚 Kaziranga women attend skill enhancement training on water hyacinth craft

A two-day Skill Development Training on Water Hyacinth Craft was attended by 20 women from fringe areas of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve to tap the opportunity to enhance their skills.

The training was organised jointly on June 6 and 7 at the Agaratoli Range by Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve Authority and with support from International Rhino Foundation (IRF).

The training aimed to strengthen the skills of local water hyacinth artisans by introducing innovative craft designs, value-added products and improved production techniques. Participants received hands-on guidance and practical demonstrations from master trainer Anjuma Begum, enabling them to enhance both the quality and market potential of their creations.

The initiative served as an important platform for bolstering the ongoing water hyacinth- based livelihood activities at Agaratoli - an effort initiated under the guidance of Dr. Sonali Ghosh as the Director, Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.

By fostering innovation, skill enhancement, and market-oriented craftsmanship, the training contributed to promoting sustainable livelihoods while encouraging the productive use of an invasive aquatic plant.

The programme was attended by Aaranyak official Arif Hussain, Senior Manager of Rhino Research and Conservation Division (RRCD), Consultant Sabrina Begum, Sociologist from Kaziranga Bipanchi Tamuly and Kalyan Bora, Forester-I, Agaratoli Range.
