The government on Friday inked 13 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with leading technical and research institutions to convert and floral waste into organic compost and natural herbal colours.

The Executive Council of the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact ( ) strongly urges an immediate halt to the airstrikes and exchanges of fire carried out by both the Thai and Cambodian militaries on July 24, 2025. These hostilities have severely endangered civilian populations and escalated the conflict along the Thailand-Cambodia border.

We call on both governments to immediately stop all military actions, especially the use of airstrikes and open fire near civilian areas, and to take swift and concrete steps to de-escalate tensions. Continued hostilities risk developing into a full-scale conflict that could cause irreparable harm to both Thai and Cambodian citizens—particularly Indigenous Peoples who have long inhabited and safeguarded these territories.

We urge the governments of Thailand and Cambodia to:

1. Immediately stop all military actions and avoid further use of airstrikes and artillery in populated areas.

2. Engage in meaningful and peaceful dialogue to resolve territorial disputes and prevent further escalation.

3. Ensure protection and humanitarian support for all affected civilians, especially Indigenous communities along the border.

4. Facilitate the safe return and rehabilitation of displaced persons, and uphold the land rights and cultural integrity of Indigenous Peoples.

The Meghalaya government will push for the retransfer of block I and II from Assam's Karbi Anglong district, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said. He further asserted that the long-pending boundary issue remains a top priority.

Tynsong, who also chairs the regional committee on the matter, said the government is awaiting a response from his Assam counterpart to schedule a joint inspection of the disputed areas.

Before the creation of Meghalaya, both these blocks were part of the United Khasi Jaintia Hills district of Assam. In the 1950s, the then governor transferred the blocks to Karbi Anglong for ease of administration.
