I am thrilled to share this drone footage from Sambhar Lake, where currently more than 5 lakh Lesser Flamingos have descended, painting the stark white salt landscape in vibrant shades of pink.
Every winter, these incredible birds embark on a massive migration journey, flying in from the Rann of Kutch and colder northern regions to feed on the specialized algae found in this saline water. But this time, it’s not just about their arrival—it is about new life. Watching them nesting and laying eggs here is a powerful reminder of how important this ecosystem is for their survival.
The Reality Behind the Shot: While the drone glides effortlessly, reaching this location was a physical challenge. To see this beauty up close, you have to earn it. We walked for miles across the treacherous, marshy salt flats—where your feet sink with every step—just to get a glimpse of this colony without disturbing them.
It was exhausting, but standing there surrounded by lakhs of these magnificent birds made all the hard work fade away.
Enjoy this glimpse of nature’s marvel! 🌿
