Dear Laura, it’s been a pleasure and privilege working with you! We have learned so much from you, and in the gentlest possible way. Thank you for standing with us through all these years. ♥️ Posted • .woven When I started Woven in 2019 it was really important to me where the collection was made. I wanted it to be close to the weaving communities I was already working with but also to be run with the same ethos, supporting women and being mindful of sustainability with minimum waste. I feel so lucky to have found .sps and .nivedita they have been wonderful partners and risen to every challenge I have given them!
Kumbaya is a powerful livelihood initiative based in the tribal drylands of Madhya Pradesh, empowering rural women and people with disabilities through the art of stitching. For 28 years, Kumbaya has been creating meaningful employment in a region with no history of craft or manufacturing, offering not just jobs, but dignity, skill, and long-term economic opportunity.
With support from over 2,500 women from more than 100 villages have been trained in garment-making—many of whom now earn from home or have entered the formal garment sector. Kumbaya guarantees 300 days of work a year for women from marginalised communities, creating over Rs. 2 crores in local income annually.
Kumbaya also leads in sustainability. From the beginning, it has used only responsibly sourced fabric—deadstock, artisanal handlooms, and leftover textile waste. Every scrap is reused, often transformed into intricate patchwork designs that define the brand’s aesthetic.
Today, Kumbaya is not only a movement for social change but also a trusted name in ethical production, supplying to boutiques, buyers, and customers across India and beyond.
